Your comfort and safety are important and contribute to having an enjoyable overall dental experience. Dr. Shannon and his team incorporate useful technological advances in dental equipment and techniques to the benefit of our patients. Staying up-to-date with the latest developments in dentistry allows us to give you treatment that feels great, looks natural, lasts longer, and takes less time to accomplish than ever before.

Digital X-Rays

Digital x-rays are a tremendous technological advancement over the old film-based x-rays. X-ray images show more detail and can be enhanced for improved "readability" through our computer software. Images are easily archived in our system for future reference and comparison. Digital x-rays are also safer for the patient due to significantly lower x-ray exposure when acquiring an image. In fact our portable NOMAD x-ray unit is among the most advanced cameras available, with the lowest exposure requirements around, and does the job quickly. It all adds up to better experience with greater comfort.

Digital Photography

High resolution digital photographs are an important tool in the evaluation process of every new patient. Dr. Shannon takes a series of photos and uses them to diagnose any dental problems and to visually explain what is happening in your mouth. Digital images are useful for cosmetic imaging and establishing a baseline of current conditions. Saved electronically, they are immediately accessible whenever needed.

Soft Tissue Laser Services

Now Available at Shannon DentalCare

Dr. Tim Shannon is pleased to announce that Shannon DentalCare is now offering additional patient services utilizing advanced and predictable laser technology. Dr. Shannon recently completed training to become certified in the use of the soft tissue diode laser. The diode laser is an excellent instrument for the treatment of a variety of soft tissue conditions. It can also effectively minimize and relieve symptoms from apthous ulcers and cold sores.

The NV Microlaser is the first wireless laser certified for dental use. It is a precision tool designed for gingival contouring and periodontal treatment. A winning combination of portability, power, and proficiency makes it a valuable surgical instrument. The soft tissue laser provides immediate hemostasis (bleeding control) when used. It performs with little or no discomfort and allows for rapid healing.

At Shannon DentalCare we are always looking for ways to make your dental experience more comfortable while providing quality care. We are committed to integrating proven, reliable technologies into our practice that work for the benefit of our patients.

Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera provides close-up pictures of your teeth before, during, and after treatment. It is especially useful during periodic check-ups. Our dental hygienist digitally photographs areas of concern and displays them on the video monitor for you and Dr. Shannon to review during your evaluation. Intraoral photos are also useful tools for patient education. Visualizing images together helps us communicate how your appearance will improve with dental care, giving you all the more reason to smile.

Sedation Dentistry

Are you overly anxious when going to the dentist? Have you had a bad dental experience in the past? For some people the idea of going to the dentist is overwhelming and prevents them from following through on needed check-ups and treatment. The good news is that dentistry can provide you with the means to do what needs to be done and make the experience more pleasant along the way. Sedation dentistry involves the use of certain anti-anxiety medications to help you relax.

Dr. Shannon offers two ways to help you accomplish your goals. The most convenient is through the inhalation of nitrous oxide gas, also known as "laughing gas". Nitrous oxide gas is a mild anti-anxiety medication that is breathed in through a nose mask while in treatment. It does not impair you mentally and leaves you fully in control. While breathing it you feel almost sleepy but remain sufficiently alert to cooperate in your treatment. Once the treatment is finished Dr. Shannon turns off the gas and you expel it from your system in a matter of minutes. With nitrous oxide gas you can come to your appointment alone and have no difficulty in driving yourself home afterwards.

Another means of relaxation is to take a mild oral sedative prior to your dental appointment. This medication has long been used and is safe when taken according to instructions. By the time you arrive for your appointment you are comfortable and relaxed. This kind of sedation does require that you be accompanied by someone who can drive you to the office and take you home afterwards. The effects of the medication sometimes linger for several hours, so Dr. Shannon recommends you rest at home following your treatment.
