Q & A with Frisco Oral Surgeon, Dr. Rex Eatmon, DDS
I recently had the opportunity to visit with oral surgeon Dr. Rex Eatmon and find out what he recommends when dealing with his patients’ problems. I asked him the following questions:
Dr. Shannon: In the summertime many parents arrange to have their children’s wisdom teeth removed. At what age are most children ready to have this done, and how do you prefer to manage such a patient in your office?
Dr. Eatmon: Wisdom teeth may be a source of minor to major problems in many people. When the wisdom teeth are impacted they may cause problems with pain and infection, crowding of the teeth especially after orthodontic care, bone destruction, or damage to adjacent good teeth. Removal of the impacted teeth as an early preventative treatment can be done in the ages of teens to early twenties. A consultation and current x-ray evaluation prior to the date of surgery is strongly recommended so informed choices regarding surgery and anesthesia can be made.

Ask the Doctor
“If I’d known I was gonna live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself.” Eubie Blake (at 100), Jazz Pianist/Composer
All too often, I hear of people who have what I call the “Parent Martyr Syndrome”. What you might ask is the “Parent Martyr Syndrome”? That’s when the parent sacrifices his/her own health needs for the sake of the children. The children go to this doctor and that doctor, and get the best care possible. But poor old Mom and Dad put up with sore teeth, bleeding gums, and bad breath until they can’t hold out any longer.

Dental Health & Wellness at the 2006 McKinney Expo
Shannon DentalCare was “in the house” at the recent McKinney Chamber of Commerce Small Business Expo. We are working hard to introduce our Health & Wellness Plan throughout the community, and the Expo was a great opportunity to reach many of our neighbor businesses. Held at the newly renovated McKinney Performing Arts Center, the event is in its third year. With more than 200 businesses and professionals in attendance, there was great interest in our unique membership plan.

Key Lime Pie with Almond Crumb Crust
For the crust
- 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
- 2/3 cup blanched almonds, toasted, cooled completely and ground fine in a food processor
- 1/2 stick (1/4 cup) unsalted butter, melted & cooled
- 1/4 cup sugar
For the Filling
- 3 large eggs, separated, the whites at room temperature
- 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup Key lime juice or fresh lime juice (about 3 limes)
- 1/3 cup sugar
Make the crust:
In a bowl combine the crumbs, the almonds, the butter, and the sugar, press the mixture onto the bottom and side of a 10-inch pie plate, and bake the shell in the middle of a preheated 350F oven for 10 minutes, or until it is browned lightly. Let the shell cool on a rack.
Make the filing:
In a large bowl beat the yolks with the condensed milk and stir in the lime juice, a little at a time, stirring to combine the filling well. Spoon the filling into the shell and chill the pie for 1 hour. In a bowl beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until they hold soft peaks, add the sugar, beating, 1 tablespoon at a time, and beat the meringue until it holds stiff peaks. Spread the meringue over the filling and bake the pie in the middle of a preheated 350F oven for 15 minutes, or until the meringue is just golden. Chill the pie for 2 hours. |
