Shannon DentalCare at the Annual Texas Dental Association Meeting
May 5-9, 2011, San Antonio

Each year Dr. Tim Shannon and members of his dental team attend the annual TDA Meeting in San Antonio. Held in early May each year, the TDA Meeting is a nationally recognized conference which brings more than 12,000 dental professionals together for continuing education, exposure to the latest developments in dental equipment and materials, and open exchange of professional ideas and experiences.

In May 2011, Dr. Shannon attended classes focusing on soft tissue laser technology and therapy. He also updated his knowledge of dental cosmetic treatments such as porcelain veneers for the front teeth. Other team members attended classes on dental implants, practice management, and computer software applications.

As President of the North Texas Dental Society, Dr. Shannon led a group of North Texas doctors who served as Delegates to the TDA House of Delegates, the official governing body of the TDA. Leading doctors from local TDA component societies throughout the state come together each year to consider proposals affecting the TDA and organized dentistry. As the "Voice of Dentistry" in Texas, the TDA represents the interests of the profession and the public. There are more than 8,000 licensed dental practitioners in Texas and over 70% of them are members of the TDA.

The House of Delegates discussed and voted on a number of resolutions. Because the TDA appreciates the importance of protecting the profession against interference from outside interests, many resolutions dealt with preserving the patient-doctor relationship. Some groups want to take away the inherent right of patients to make decisions about their health care in consultation with their doctors. Actions by the House of Delegates seek to ensure that their rights are protected.

The Delegates also voted on their leadership for the upcoming year and nominations for TDA Councils and Committees. Dr. Preston Coleman, incoming TDA President, nominated Dr. Shannon to serve on the TDA Council on Constitution and Bylaws. This Council makes sure all resolutions and actions of the TDA are in compliance with its Constitution and Bylaws. The Delegates approved his nomination. He will serve on the Council through 2015.
As part of his commitment to continuing education and service to the community, Dr. Shannon invests countless hours upgrading his professional knowledge and that of his team's. He supports the work of the TDA because of its longstanding commitment to the sanctity of the patient-doctor relationship.
