Timothy Patrick Shannon, DDS

Dr. Timothy P. Shannon is a 1981 graduate of the University of Texas Dental School in Houston, Texas. Being licensed to practice dentistry that same year, he has provided personalized, comprehensive dental care to patients for over 25 years. In that time he has completed several hundred hours of advanced continuing education. Ongoing education, combined with valuable experience, has served him well in the treatment of his patients.

In 2003, Dr. Shannon and his wife Kathleen relocated to McKinney and opened a new dental practice, Shannon DentalCare. The practice combines his philosophy of optimal, personalized patient care with the benefits that come from a preventative and proactive approach to managing one’s health. His intent has always been to help his patients receive the best care available in dentistry today with the goal of having a great, healthy smile for a lifetime.

Dr. Shannon grew up in the Dallas area and attended Highland Park High School. He graduated from Baylor University prior to dental school, receiving an undergraduate degree in Psychology with academic emphasis on predental studies in biology and chemistry.

Since moving to McKinney he has been active in the North Texas Dental Society, and currently serves on its Executive Board. In that capacity, Dr. Shannon helps with oversight of dental society functions as well as volunteering on various committees. He is presently helping with the annual “Give Kids a Smile” event and the Rite to Smile Foundation.

Dr. Shannon is an active member of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce. He also participates in the North Collin chapter of Business Network International, a networking group of local business people. And recently he was re-appointed by the McKinney City Council to serve a two-year term on the McKinney Library Board.

The Shannons are members of Prestonwood Baptist Church and attend services at the North Campus. He is involved in various ministries of the church, serves as director of his Bible study class, and is a member of the deacon body.

Staff

Our staff is built upon three key values: top-quality technical training, ongoing education, and a sincere desire to help the people we serve. We're all 'people-people', and we're here because we enjoy helping patients obtain their long-term oral health goals. And while just about anyone can say that, we can demonstrate it! So come on and visit us at our office! We look forward to meeting you.

Kathleen Shannon - Business Assistant

Kathleen Shannon, Financial Coordinator and Scheduling Assistant, has worked with her husband Dr. Tim Shannon since 1998. She enjoys helping patients receive the greatest benefit possible from their dental plans and finding ways to help with out-of-pocket expense.

Kathleen's family is from Jackson, Mississippi. After graduation from Ole Miss and being persuaded by her sister Wendy, she moved to Dallas, Texas. During the 1980s and 1990s, she worked for several commercial real estate companies, as a research assistant and commercial appraiser. In 2002, she and Dr. Shannon bought a home in McKinney, and opened their new general dental practice in Stonebridge Ranch.

Kathleen has two wonderful nieces who have been like her daughters. Ginny recently graduated from Baylor University and teaches first grade in Waxahachie, Texas. In June 2004, Kathleen had the privilege of welcoming a nephew-in-law to the family when Ginny married Shawn Mathiews. Ashley graduated Oklahoma University summer 2004 and is working as a nuclear medical tech at Lancaster Hospital in the Dallas area.

Kathleen has been an active participant in Bible Study Fellowship since 1984. She has served as a discussion leader, children's leader and children's supervisor. She currently attends the Plano Evening Women's Class and leads a discussion group on Monday nights. She and her husband are active members of Prestonwood Baptist Church. Kathleen has volunteered on several event-planning committees for the McKinney Chamber of Commerce.

Kathleen's family loves Boston terriers and has had several during the years. At present, she and Dr. Shannon are "empty-nesters" but plan to have one of their own in the near future. During her spare time, Kathleen enjoys sewing, cooking, reading and window shopping for antiques.

Rene Lake - Hygienist

Rene Lake has been Dr. Shannon's Hygienist since his McKinney practice opened in December of 2002. She has over 21 years of experience in her profession. Since graduating from Baylor College of Dentistry's Dental Hygiene program in 1984, Rene has worked for her brother, a dentist in Mansfield as well as other dental practices in the Richardson area.

While Hygiene is a job Rene truly loves, her true "calling" is to be a Mom. She has three beautiful teenage daughters, and the oldest attends college at Oklahoma Christian University. She is studying Psychology/Family Studies and would one day love to be a motivational speaker. Her two younger daughters attend Lucas Christian Academy where they participate on the volleyball and basketball teams. They both love their school and are very busy with schoolwork and the activities that accompany it. The newest addition to Rene's family came recently in the form of a Yorkie/Chihuahua named Nitzki. He is 6 pounds of love and energy.

Rene has several areas of interest. She enjoys gardening and decorating her home. She also enjoys many forms of crafts from needlework to paper crafts. For 3 years she had an Antique/Gift Shop/Rubber Stamping/Scrapbooking store in Van Alstyne. While working there, she had a wonderful time meeting lovely people and getting to do the things she loved everyday.

Shelly Calvert - Dental Assistant

Shelly Calvert has had the privilege of working side-by-side with Dr. Shannon as his dental assistant since the practice opened on December 31, 2002. She feels blessed to have a great working environment.

Her family has been in the area since 1991. Shelly and her family lived in Plano for approximately eight years where she worked in pediatric dentistry as well as general dentistry. She loves people and working in all aspects of dentistry.

In 2000 her family made a large transition; they left the city comforts for "country life." They now live outside of Anna where they have 10 acres.  The move further north increased their family size quite a bit. They are the proud owners of several male English Mastiffs, commonly referred to by Dr. Shannon as miniature horses.   They also have a few head of cattle.

Shelly and her husband Gary have recently celebrated 25 years of marriage and are blessed with two children. Their daughter Cortney graduated in 3 years from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.  She received a Bachelors degree in Sociology and a minor in Social Work. She will continue her education to achieve her Masters (at this point she has applied at USC).  Their son Brandon is nearing the end of his freshman year of High School in Anna.

Shelly and her family feel like the Father above has blessed them richly. They worship with their family and friends at the McDermott Road Church of Christ in Allen, Texas.
